Xiaomi's Redmi Turbo 5 has officially made its way to India, arriving a few months after its original China debut. It's a mid-ranger with a genuinely massive battery, a sharp AMOLED display, and a price tag aggressive enough to put pressure on the rest of the segment.

If the phone feels familiar, that's because it is. The Redmi Turbo 5 shares almost everything with the Poco X8 Pro, right down to the chipset and camera setup. The one meaningful change is battery size, where Xiaomi has given the Redmi version a noticeably bigger cell.

Design and Display

The Redmi Turbo 5 keeps things compact at 157.5 x 75.2 x 8.2mm and 204g, with a glass front and an aluminum frame. Durability is a strong point here, with IP68 and IP69K ratings covering dust resistance, high-pressure water jets, and even submersion up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.

Up front is a 6.59-inch AMOLED panel running at a 1.5K resolution (1268 x 2756px) with a 19.56:9 aspect ratio and roughly 460ppi sharpness. It supports a 120Hz refresh rate, a 3840Hz PWM rate for flicker reduction, and peak brightness of up to 3,500 nits. Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and HDR Vivid are all on board, and the display sits under Corning Gorilla Glass 7i.

Performance and Software

Power comes from MediaTek's Dimensity 8500 Ultra, a 4nm chipset, paired with LPDDR5X Ultra RAM (up to 16GB) and UFS 4.1 storage on most variants. Xiaomi has built in a 3D IceLoop cooling system along with Game Turbo Wild Boost optimization to manage sustained performance during longer gaming sessions.

On the software side, the phone ships with HyperOS 3 built on Android 16, and Xiaomi has committed to four years of major OS upgrades and six years of security patches. AI features like HyperConnect, Google Gemini integration, and Circle to Search are also included.

Camera

The rear setup is led by a 50MP Sony IMX882 main sensor with f/1.5 aperture and optical image stabilization, joined by an 8MP ultra-wide camera with a 120-degree field of view. Up front, there's a 20MP selfie camera. Video capture tops out at 4K at 60fps on the rear camera, and the phone includes Turbo Snap burst shooting along with AI-assisted photo editing tools.

This is where the Redmi Turbo 5 separates itself from its Poco twin. It packs a 7,540mAh battery, well above what most phones in this segment offer, paired with 100W wired fast charging (with PD3.0 and PPS support) and 27W reverse wired charging for topping up other devices.

Connectivity

The Redmi Turbo 5 supports 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4/6.0 with aptX HD and LHDC 5 support, NFC, and an infrared port for use as a universal remote. Stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res audio support round out the multimedia side, and security is handled by an under-display optical fingerprint reader along with face unlock.
